EDIT: Sorry for the low audio levels of the recording – this was one of my earlier videos and I was trying to do too much at once

Having used the MG10XU board for about a year now, it seemed like a good time for a follow-up video with…

0:00 A quick review of why I chose this board in the first place

2:00 The real /"sweet spot" for this board (in my opinion)

2:45 My board setup for rehearsals and performances in small venues

4:00 Additional equipment for this video

6:25 Live sound from the board with FX

7:40 Summary

For the live sound segment, I use a Turbosound iP2000 column array loudspeaker, recorded with a Zoom H6 using the standard X/Y capsule, an MXL-990 capacitor, and direct from the board. I also use FX #2: Reverb on the board.

I still wish this board had compressors on all (4) XLR/combo channels and some combination FX (so chorus + reverb). It would also be great to have panned mids and individual monitor sends for each channel. But that's just pennies in the wishing well, so life goes on – LOL.

Final Analysis: In my opinion, this board is BEST for live sound for a 3-5 piece band, in smaller venues (50-100 people) or rehearsals with…

– 1-4 vocal interludes
– 1-2 guitars
– 1-2 keyboards
– (Playbacks)
– Bass and drums individually (NO signals via the board)
– The board is on the stage, on a microphone stand, and is operated by a band member

If this video helped you make your decision, that's my goal, so please give it a thumbs up or leave a comment below. I read and respond to ALL comments and look forward to hearing your thoughts on this follow-up video on the Yamaha MG10XU Live Sound Mixer.

PS: ON-BOARD EFFECTS (10-05-20)

A lot of people complain about the MG's digital effects – and I understand that.

While it's better than nothing, none of the built-in effects are suitable (in my opinion) for home studio use, as you can achieve MUCH more control and flexibility in a DAW.

I have personally been using this little board for over a year and have opted for the second reverb patch, which sounds perfectly fine for our band rehearsals and gigs in small venues.

However, if you absolutely must upgrade the FX for some reason, here is the cheapest and best rated option I can find for doing so using the FX Loop feature…

Although I would like to see more than two "combo effects", ALL effects seem to represent a significant improvement in quality compared to the built-in options.

(JM2C, since I haven't tried it personally yet…)
