I don't know if you noticed, but on April 1st, instead of making an April Fool's joke, Microsoft made a bit of an improvement to licensing Windows Server in a virtual machine. First, there are no longer minimum licenses of 16 cores per client, which is a ridiculous requirement anyway, so you only need to license virtual machines with at least eight cores per virtual machine. And second, when licensing virtual machines, you are now allowed to use Windows Server Standard licenses to license Windows Server Datacenter virtual machines. But. But! Big /"but/": only if those licenses are purchased through CSP. So if you have an Enterprise contract, you're out of luck. You have to follow the old rules.
