Money can buy you things and freedom. If you have a lot of money, luckily you can afford both. However, if you are an average person with modest money, you can only afford one thing: things or freedom. Most people choose to buy things because they think it will make them live a happy and fulfilling life. Yet it often leads them to a life of deprivation and lack. The way to live a happy and fulfilling life is to use your money to buy freedom. There are many benefits to buying freedom and in this video I talk about 7 of those benefits.

1. You no longer live in the past

When people choose to buy things over freedom, they make many poor financial decisions in the past, such as taking on debt, not paying bills, and not planning for the future, which their present self must focus on. This forces them to live a life of regret and focus on the past. When you prioritize buying your freedom over things, you avoid making poor financial decisions that negatively impact your past self, and you can enjoy the present more.

2. You are no longer afraid of the future

Another side effect of buying things over freedom is that it puts you in a difficult financial situation and makes you fearful of the future. If you make poor financial decisions and don't prepare for the future, the future seems uncertain and that uncertainty causes you a lot of anxiety. If you choose to buy freedom over things, you make better financial decisions that make the future more secure. This allows you to be more optimistic about the future.

3. Your financial life is less chaotic

When you choose to put things over your freedom, your financial life becomes extremely chaotic as you fall behind on old debts and bills and struggle to pay off current bills. This makes it very hard to move forward in life. When you choose to buy your freedom instead of things, your finances become simpler, allowing you to stay on top of things and move forward in life.

4. Your physical life is less cluttered

Another downside to obsessing over things and living a consumerist life is that it makes your physical life extremely cluttered. The average American's life is so cluttered that there is a ton of stuff in every room of their house, making it difficult to concentrate and not be stressed. When you choose to buy less stuff, you are freer to do what you want because your possessions are not overwhelming and stressing you out.

5. You have more control over your time

Freedom is the ability to have more control over your time. It's about doing what you want, when you want, and where you want to do it. If you spend all your money on things, you'll ultimately have less control over your time. But if you make your freedom a priority, you'll be able to spend more time doing what you want in life.

6. You can take more risks (this will probably work)

Two years ago I took a risk to quit my job to focus full-time on YouTube. So far it's paid off for me as I now make more than I did in my previous job. The risk paid off because I worked hard and was extremely analytical, but also because I bought my freedom beforehand by saving 80k. That gave me time to learn, grow, and make mistakes. If you buy your freedom with a large financial safety net and then take a risk, your risk is much more likely to pay off.

7. You can afford the life you want

There is nothing wrong with buying things and living a comfortable life. The problem, however, is that most people think they can achieve freedom in life by buying things first and then freedom, but that's not how it works. To achieve freedom in life and still live a comfortable life, you must first buy your freedom and then buy things. Once you have bought your freedom, you can use the money to buy the life you want.
