The authorities in France have released the head of the messaging app Telegram, Pavel Durov. The tech entrepreneur was released on bail of five million euros under conditions. He, too, must remain in France.

Durov, a native of Russia, was arrested in Paris on Sunday. He had previously been charged with violations related to the messaging app. Prosecutors accuse Durov of being involved in crimes committed by others on his platform.

To learn more, we speak to Eva Galperin, director of cybersecurity at the Electronic Frontier Foundation, a digital rights organization based in San Francisco.
