A firewall is a network security device that monitors traffic to and from your network.

Firewalls can be hardware or software based.

Firewalls fall into two main categories:

*Stateful – A class of firewall that tracks the information passing through it and proactively filters out threats.

*Stateless – A class of firewall that operates based on predefined rules and does NOT log any information from data packets.

While stateful firewalls analyze traffic that appears suspicious, stateless firewalls do not, which is why they are considered less secure.

Stay cyber smart.
