The process involves identifying hazards and risk factors, analyzing and assessing the likelihood of their occurrence, and identifying ways to eliminate or control them.

A hazard is something that has the potential to cause harm to people, property or the environment, while risk is the likelihood that a hazard will actually cause harm or damage under certain circumstances.
