This short film encourages people aged 14 and over with a learning disability to attend their annual health check once a year.

Main presenter Dan Walmsley and his co-stars pose a series of questions and answers about what annual learning disability health checks are, the benefits and how to make sure you get one.

The video was shot on locations in Derby and the surrounding Derbyshire area and stars six local people with learning disabilities.

If you are aged 14 or over and have a learning disability, you should be on your GP's learning disability register and therefore be entitled to a free annual health check. Contact your GP to check if you are on the register.

All GP practices in Derbyshire offer annual learning disability health checks for people aged 14 and over and on their respective LD registers. This check can help you stay well by talking to a doctor or nurse about your health and identifying any problems early so they can be addressed. You don't have to be ill to have a health check – in fact, most people have their annual health check when they are feeling well.

Under the Equality Act 2010, all disabled people have the right to reasonable adjustments when receiving healthcare services. Speak to your GP if you require reasonable adjustments at your annual health check. This information can then be added to your care summary record and help to improve the experience and quality of your health check.

Examples of reasonable adjustments you may need include: longer appointments if you need more time with your doctor or nurse to ensure you understand the information they provide, or access to easy-to-read documents such as appointment letters and your health action plan.

Speak to your GP for more information about annual health checks for learning disabilities.
