Threat modeling is an approach to analyzing the security of an application. Threat modeling is a learned security skill in which developers find security issues and fix them before writing a single line of code. Threat modeling consists of drawing a simple data flow diagram, analyzing the design for security threats using STRIDE, and fixing any issues found. The instructor will introduce available threat modeling tools that participants can use in their organizations to perform threat modeling.
This session begins with a short lecture covering the fundamentals of threat modeling and the steps to successful threat modeling. Participants will spend most of the session performing threat modeling exercises on whiteboards in small teams. At the end, participants will share their findings.
