The four sangkats/communes (see below) closest to central Siem Reap are good choices if you're looking for an apartment. You can't go wrong with any of the four, but you'll find the most available properties in Svay Dankum and Sala Kamreuk.

1 – Svay Dankum (Sok San Rd, Taphul Rd, Old Market, Pub Street, Psar Kraoum, Supermarkets)
2 – Sala Kamreuk (Wat Bo, Wat Damnak, the highest concentration of schools, Angkor Muscle Gym)
3 – Sla Kram (green area by the river, many Wats: Polanka, An Kau Sa, Enkosai, relaxed atmosphere)
4 – Kok Chak (area in central Siem Reap with most locals and non-expats, cheap local food)

Of course Svay Dankum is the best because that's where we live and also where Dave and Seng Lai from Dave Does Cambodia live!

If you have any questions about the different parts of Siem Reap, please ask.

Cambodia is divided into 25 provinces. Siem Reap is one of them.
The province of Siem Reap is divided into 12 districts.
The city of Siem Reap is one of these districts.
The city of Siem Reap is divided into 13 sangkats/communities.
Svay Dankum, Sala Kamreuk, Sla Kram and Kok Chak are four of these sangkats/congregations.
Below there is a level called Village, but I have no information about it.
