I'm going to show you one of the BEST principles of animation. This principle improved my animations tenfold once I understood the power of the technique and also when and how to apply it to my own work.

The principle I'm talking about is anticipation, or antics as it's called in the industry. It's one of the 12 basic principles of animation and to better understand it, in this video I've demonstrated two different scenarios so you can see the difference.

Below is another example that shows how important anticipation is in mastering movements and why it is the driving force behind almost all major actions!

Then I'll show you when not to use anticipation. Essentially, if it's not "animated" or "alive," it's not really necessary.

Finally, we analyze a scene from Sony Animation’s “Spider-Man: Into the New Universe” to illustrate the lessons learned in the video!
