The future of policing presents both challenges and opportunities as technological advances continue to influence how we interact as a society. We are becoming citizens of the physical and digital worlds and expect police to provide similar services in both. To keep pace with the expectations of an increasingly connected and digitalised society, policing must become highly innovative. Simon O'Rourke is a career police officer with over 20 years of operational experience and a keen interest in technology. He was awarded the 2017 Fulbright Western Australia Postdoctoral Scholarship, which led to him being appointed as a Fellow in the Harvard Kennedy School's Program on Crisis Leadership for the 2017/18 academic year. His research focus is on police leadership during critical incidents, including terrorism. His current role is to train and prepare police commanders for the challenges they face during a major incident where they must make critical decisions in a highly complex environment. This talk was delivered at a TEDx event in the TED conference format, but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
