If you had asked someone twenty, fifty, or even a hundred years ago which country in the world was the most diverse, fair, and inclusive, the answer would almost certainly have been “the United States.”

No longer.

What has changed?

So, nothing… and everything.

Nothing in the sense that America is still the place full of opportunity that it always was.

And it's all because the progressive left has hijacked those three words – diversity, equity, and inclusion – and turned them into weapons of mass destruction. This DEI trio forms the neutron bomb that has destroyed much of our educational and corporate institutions.

Given the damage that has been done, it might be a good idea to consider the past and present meaning of these words.

In the past, diversity meant that people of different backgrounds had the freedom to join a group or association.

In the past, equality meant enforcing equal standards for all individuals and groups.

In the past, inclusion meant that people could participate in a group or association regardless of their origin and identity.

In the DEI context, these words all mean one thing: applying unequal standards to grant preferential treatment to individuals and groups based on race, sex, and gender identity.

The DEI movement is not about a sincere desire to make educational or corporate institutions more diverse, equitable, or inclusive.

If you don't believe me, try having an open discussion on your company message board or at your next DEI seminar about why the same standards should apply to all people everywhere, regardless of race, sex, or gender identity.

Try that, and you know what will happen: you will be shouted down, shunned, reprimanded, and maybe fired.

Ultimately, DEI is about one thing: the advancement of those who are not white, heterosexual and male at the expense of white, heterosexual men, regardless of their respective qualifications.

If you say that's OK because white, straight men have had too many advantages for too long, then I would ask: What about all the women, gay men, black men, and Latinos who were born into privilege? Should they be recipients of special DEI benefits?

And when do we know we've reached a DEI endpoint? When do we know everything is finally diverse, equitable and inclusive?

There is no good answer to any of these questions. That is a feature, not a flaw, of the DEI scam. America will never be able to DEI its way out of its DEI "problem." It is the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. You will never reach your goal because it doesn't exist. You will never be quite diverse enough, equitable enough, or inclusive enough.

The DEI obsession has been great for one group of people: the generously paid DEI administrators at every Fortune 100 company, college, and university, and everyone who works under them.

Companies today pay millions upon millions of dollars to so-called DEI experts to sow discord and distrust among their own employees. This is perhaps the most unproductive and self-destructive thing a company can do to itself. But to their eternal shame, companies do it anyway.

They think they're trapped. If they don't set up a DEI office, it proves that their company is racist, sexist, and homophobic. But if they set up a DEI office, it proves that their company is racist, sexist, and homophobic. Or why else did they set up a DEI office in the first place?

If it's heads, you win, if it's tails, you lose.
