"I guess I'll start over," said Devony Hudson, who picked up a new set of keys Monday morning as police, a private security company and Manitoba government employees kept an eye on the three-storey brick building built more than a century ago.
Some of the building's windows were broken or boarded up, and a notice from the Winnipeg Fire Department was posted on the front door saying the fire alarm and sprinkler system were out of order.
Hudson said two weekends ago, a maintenance man came to her door, told her she had to leave immediately and offered her a few hundred dollars. Shortly after, her belongings were outside.
Global's Katherine Dornian knows the details.
