Technical debt is not technical (Talk)
Technical debt is not primarily caused by incompetent developers, architecture astronauts, unrealistic UX people, or even stupid project managers. What, then, are the causes? It is a symptom of weak abstractions resulting from inadequate understanding and modeling of the problem domain. These inadequacies are exacerbated by organizational inertia and communication problems. This means that we cannot hope to eliminate our so-called technical debt through virtuous programming alone. To avoid technical bankruptcy, we must step away from the keyboard and deal with the complex mess of human problems that ultimately impact the software we build.

biography

Einar W. Høst is not a software craftsman; he is a real ivory tower fanatic with a PhD. His heretical views include not thinking at the keyboard and making drawings to understand things better. He works on domain modeling, API design and computer programming at NRK.
