The Sprint Planning meeting helps set the context of the Sprint by outlining the Product Owner's goals for a Sprint.
In Scrum, we have multiple time windows called Sprints or Iterations. In each Sprint, a set of features are implemented in the form of Stories to incrementally improve the product under development. The Sprint Planning Meeting is the kickoff meeting for each Sprint. This meeting helps set the context of the Sprint by outlining the Product Owner's goals for that Sprint. It also sets the priority of the Stories based on the available bandwidth/capacity to achieve the goal and deliver incremental value to the product.
