Introduction to data structures?
A data structure is a collection of data elements that provides an efficient way to store and organize data in a computer so that it can be used effectively. The long answer is: A data structure is a mixture of data organization, management, retrieval, and storage, summarized in a format that allows efficient access and modification. It collects data values, the relationships they share, and the applicable functions or operations.
Why is data structure important?
The digital world processes an ever-increasing amount of data every year. According to Forbes, 2.5 quintillion bytes of data are generated every day. Over 90 percent of the data that existed in the world in 2018 was created in the previous two years! The Internet of Things (IoT) is responsible for a significant portion of this data explosion. Data structures are necessary to manage the massive amounts of data generated and are a critical factor in increasing algorithm efficiency. Since almost all software applications use data structures and algorithms, your educational path must eventually include learning data structures and algorithms if you want to pursue a career as a data scientist or programmer. Interviewers are looking for qualified candidates who know how to use data structures and algorithms, so the more you know about the concepts, the more confident and secure you will be answering data structures questions in the interview.
