Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) is a communications protocol that is standard in network monitoring systems. It enables monitoring and control of SNMP-enabled devices in remote networks.

The SNMP architecture is based on the manager-agent format. The SNMP manager collects information from your multiple SNMP agents deployed at remote sites. The agents' job is to collect data from remote sites and send it back to the master using the SNMP protocol.

This exchange of information can take place via polling or via traps.

In this video, Andrew explains what polling and traps are and how they differ from each other.
