Which business areas should I set goals for?

Since there isn't one central goal for all small businesses, it's important to think about who you are as an organization, what goals you want to achieve by building your business, and what you need to do to achieve that.

The main focus areas include:

Growth: Building your customer base, expanding your workforce, increasing your reach, opening new offices, or expanding globally all contribute to business growth.

Operational: Operational goals include objectives related to efficiency, quality, product, service or innovation. These goals can help ensure your business operates in a way that drives growth and revenue and organically supports customer and employee satisfaction.

Profit: Almost every small business should consider revenue or profit when setting goals, as financial viability is critical to the continued existence of the business. These goals may involve revenue, pipeline, expenses, or profit margin, and typically increase over time.

Customer service: Customer service objectives help you focus on meeting the needs of your stakeholders and typically include both customer satisfaction and loyalty measures and, where appropriate, employee retention measures.

Social: Social goals address your desire to drive social change and may include goals related to your carbon footprint, your commitment to social justice, or your community involvement.

Remember to involve key stakeholders when setting goals and then communicate those goals clearly to the entire team that will work to achieve them.
