Transferable skills are skills you have developed throughout your life, either through work experience, through education at a college or university, or simply through life experiences. Post-pandemic, these skills have become more valuable because more employers are realizing that technical or hard skills can be taught, but soft skills are acquired with experience and exposure. These skills can easily be transferred from one job to another.

I worked in a Big4 accounting firm in India and New Zealand for over 5 years before moving into the corporate role in financial planning and analysis. Experience at a Big4 can serve as a great training ground to gain skills that you can use in most other roles (except those that require specific technical knowledge and training).
Transferable skills can be divided into four main categories:
️Organizational skills
️Communication skills
️Leadership
️People skills

So always try to learn at least half of the skills listed below. Examples of transferable skills include:

Communication skills
Stakeholder management/relationship building
Project management
Prioritization
Teamwork and collaboration

Resilience
Critical thinking
Time management
Attention to detail
Self-motivation
Analytical thinking

So next time you apply for a job and don't meet all the criteria, remember that we all have some of these transferable skills. Just pick a few and use real-life examples to showcase them in the interview.
