How to get saved and go to heaven for free

The bad news is that we have all sinned against God and are destined for eternal punishment in hell on our current path. The good news, however, is that God sent His only Son—Jesus Christ—in human form to live the perfect life we could not live and died on the cross for all the sins of our lives (past, present, and future). Then He was resurrected by God on the third day, proving that He was the Son of God and that His sacrifice had been accepted by God; and He was seen by over 500 witnesses after His resurrection. All we have to do to get to heaven and be saved from our sins is to believe in Jesus—believe that He is the Son of God who died for all the sins of our lives, was buried, and rose from the dead. It is an act of will in which we place our trust in Him alone and His finished work on the cross as payment for our sins. Salvation is a free gift from God, paid for entirely by Jesus, with no good works required; all we have to do is accept it by faith in Jesus. When we put our faith in Jesus, we receive the Holy Spirit, which guarantees that we are saved and will spend eternity with Him in heaven.

Below are some good Bible verses from the New King James Version that illustrate this good news:

For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. (John 3:16)

[Jesus said] "…whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life. He does not come into judgment, but has passed from death to life." (John 5:24)

Jesus answered him, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me." (John 14:6)

But now God has shown us a way to become righteous before God without meeting the requirements of the law. … We become righteous before God by putting our faith in Jesus Christ. … For each one has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard. Yet God in his grace freely makes us righteous before God. He did this through Christ Jesus when he freed us from the penalty for our sins. For God gave Jesus as a sacrifice for sin. People become righteous before God when they believe that Jesus sacrificed his life and shed his blood. … God did this to demonstrate his righteousness, for he himself is fair and just, and he makes sinners righteous before him when they believe in Jesus. So can we boast that we have done something to be accepted by God? No, for our acquittal is not based on keeping the law. It is based on faith. (Romans 3:21-27)

But God demonstrates his own love for us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. How much more then, having now been justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him. For if, while we were still enemies, we were reconciled to God through the death of his Son, much more, having been reconciled, we shall be saved by his life! (Romans 5:8-11)

For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. (Romans 6:23)

If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart you believe and you will be justified, and with the mouth you confess and you will be saved. For the Scripture says, "Whoever believes in him will not be put to shame" (Romans 10:9-11).

And since it [salvation] is by God's goodness, it is not by their good works. For in that case God's grace would not be what it really is: free and undeserved. (Romans 11:6)

In him you also, when you heard the word of truth and the gospel of your salvation, believed in him and were sealed with the promised Holy Spirit, who is the guarantee of our inheritance until the redemption of what we own, to the praise of his glory. (Ephesians 1:13-14)

For by grace you have been saved, through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God. Not as a result of works, so that no one can boast. (Ephesians 2:8-9)

For God did not appoint us to wrath, but to obtain salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ, who died for us so that whether we wake or sleep we may live together with him (1 Thessalonians 5:9-10).
