Amie Clark, co-founder of #TheSeniorList.com, reviews the #HandsFreeHealth medical alert system. Amie will review two pieces of her medical alert kit: the WellBe virtual health assistant smart speaker and the Wellbe emergency alert smartwatch.

One of the new trends in #MedicalAlert systems is using your voice to call for help. This is particularly exciting because it allows you to call for help without actually having to press any buttons.

First up is the WellBe smart speaker with virtual health assistant. It looks similar to an Alexa device. It is voice activated and can be placed anywhere in your home as long as it can be plugged into a power outlet.

In case of a medical emergency, just say /"OK WellBe, emergency/".

But the smart speaker is much more than just a voice-activated medical alarm system.

When Amie tested the WellBe smart speaker, she noticed a few drawbacks: WellBe didn't respond to some of her requests, like "Ok WellBe, I need help" or "I fell." Amie is concerned that in a real emergency, not everyone would remember to say the exact phrase that triggers a 911 call. And finally, the WellBe smart speaker only runs for a few hours in the event of a power outage and won't work if it's not connected to Wi-Fi.

Now let's take a look at the WellBe smartwatch with emergency alert. In terms of appearance, the watch is similar to an Apple Watch or Fitbit. In addition to being a 4G cellular medical alert system, the WellBe smartwatch also tracks your activity and heart rate. It responds to voice commands and you can access the WellBe smart speaker features from the smartwatch. The WellBe smartwatch is water resistant and can be worn while washing hands and even bathing. The smartwatch should be charged daily and will last around 24 hours depending on usage. You don't need a cell phone for the smartwatch to work, but someone with a smartphone will need to use the WellBe app to set it up for you.

In case of a medical emergency, simply press the button on the side of the watch.

When Amie tested the WellBe smartwatch, she noticed some drawbacks. She has a small wrist and cannot wear this smartwatch comfortably. The watch face is 1 ½ inches wide and 1 ⅞ inches high.

The other downside is that there is no automatic fall detection option. If you are looking for this feature in a medical alert system, you should definitely look into other alarm systems with fall detection.

Cost of WellBe. The smart speaker costs $189. This is a one-time fee, there are no monthly fees. The WellBe smartwatch costs $179.95 and requires a subscription to operate. Currently, the subscription fee is $34.95. This monthly cost covers 24/7 access to professional emergency monitoring services and is comparable to other leading cellular medical alert systems on the market today. You can save a lot of money by bundling the smart speaker and smartwatch together. The WellBe Medical Alert Plus package costs $199.95 up front and has a monthly fee of $44.95.
