Planning to have a baby? Here are some preconception tests for you!

1. Routine blood tests including blood group and blood sugar:
This is the first test you should get done. It includes blood count, Rh factor, thalassemia screening, liver profile, kidney profile, lipid profile, fasting and post-meal sugar, HbA1c and helps us to know more about your body functions.

2. Urine test –
It is performed to check for urinary tract infections, diabetes and kidney function.

3. Hormonal profile –
This is done to determine the levels of reproductive hormones such as FSH, LH, AMH and thyroid hormones, which help us determine your fertility status.

4. Infection screening –
This is done to detect sexually transmitted infections (STIs) such as HIV, syphilis, chlamydia and gonorrhea, as well as other infections such as hepatitis B and C and rubella.

5. Pelvic ultrasound –
This helps detect abnormalities such as fibroids, ovarian cysts or structural problems that could affect fertility or pregnancy.

6. Pap smear –
This is done to look for cervical cancer and other abnormalities in the cervical cells.

‼️Wait! There are also tests for men –
Blood tests, urine tests and infection screening should also be performed by men.

In addition, men should also undergo a sperm analysis (this is not mandatory), which assesses sperm count, motility, morphology and general sperm health.

These tests can help you make sure that both partners are healthy before trying to conceive and that your doctor can correct any deficiencies/abnormalities before trying.
