Kamala Harris has overtaken Donald Trump's lead in seven swing states as the vice president rides a wave of enthusiasm among young, black and Hispanic voters, according to the latest Bloomberg News/Morning Consult poll.

In the swing states that are likely to decide the November election, Harris was supported by 48 percent of voters, Trump by 47 percent – a statistically neck-and-neck race. That's a stronger result than the two-point deficit President Joe Biden had before he dropped out of the race. The Democratic vice president overtook her Republican rival in Arizona and Nevada and more than doubled Biden's lead over Trump in Michigan.

The numbers suggest Harris has a chance to reunite the coalition of voters that put President Barack Obama in the White House – and a clearer path to victory than Biden, who has struggled to mobilize the Democratic base. Barely a week after Harris became the presumptive nominee, the poll offers early evidence that the party's historic move to oust an incumbent president from the ballot is having the effect Democrats had hoped.
