In March 2022, the PCI Security Standards Council (PCI SSC) released PCI DSS v4.0, a significant update to the standard that replaces the existing version v3.2.1. For most organizations, this means 53 new requirements to meet. If your organization is a service provider, an additional 11 requirements must be met, bringing the total to 64. In addition to the new additions, there have also been many other changes and clarifications to other sub-requirements.
Fortunately, most of the new requirements have a transition period to implement the necessary changes. 13 requirements apply immediately to all new v4.0 assessments, but the remaining 51 are only best practices until March 31, 2025, and will become fully effective after that. This should give companies sufficient time to understand and implement the changes to comply with the new version.
