Is there hope against hackers?

With the number of cyberattacks reaching an all-time high, the National Institute of Standards and Technology has unveiled the first comprehensive revision of its groundbreaking cybersecurity framework.

With the Cybersecurity Framework 2.0, NIST is expanding the scope of the guidelines beyond critical infrastructure such as power plants and hospitals.
Kevin Stine, director of the institute's applied cybersecurity division, said in a press release: "The goal of this update is to make the framework even more relevant to a wider range of users in the United States and abroad."

With tensions rising between the United States and its adversaries, cybercriminals have targeted smaller organizations, such as school districts and local governments, as they risk lacking strong cybersecurity measures.

The first cybersecurity framework was published in 2014 by order of President Obama.

The core of the framework is now organized around six key capabilities: Identify, Protect, Detect, Respond and Recover, as well as the newly added governance capability.
The additional emphasis on governance incorporates cybersecurity policies and strategies at a higher organizational level to ensure that the principles are applied throughout the organization.
