Before your product or service goes mainstream, you really need to know who the early adopters are in your product range (the so-called trendsetters). These are the first users of your product who are eager to solve their problem despite the basic functionality of the product or software you offer.

I will show you the tools you need to realize your MVP. In this video, we will show you how to use the explainer video, the Wizard of Oz MVP, the landing page, the concierge MVP, as well as crowdfunding as powerful tools to help you validate your product or service assumptions.
DROPBOX
Now that we have looked at these tools, let's look at how they can be used.
First, let’s see the explainer video in action as used by Dropbox.
It's important to note that the video was created before the actual file hosting service was developed. Drew Houston (the CEO and co-founder of Dropbox) didn't spend any money developing the product before demand was confirmed. We can argue that the video itself was also minimalistic and definitely cheap. Still… it was effective. Thousands of people have added their email addresses to the company's database so they can be notified when the product is available.
The use of the explainer video was fundamental to the company's success. It can be said that the MVP drove Dropbox's rapid success and enabled the company to rise rapidly.
Landing page
The next MVP tool is called a landing page. And… no… it’s not where skydivers land. A landing page is a page on your website that is designed to convert visitors into leads.
Joel from Buffer used the power of the landing page to boost his software application business. Buffer allows you to schedule posts to be sent to Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, and LinkedIn. It's a great way for individuals to connect with their community.
However, Joel had no idea if people would be interested at first. So he created a landing page and used it as a learning tool. The landing page allowed him to collect visitors' email addresses before the software application even launched. Much like Dropbox, right?
But he did much more by redirecting traffic to a different version of the landing page. This allowed him to experiment with pricing strategy as well as site design and find the most effective strategies that converted the most visitors into paying customers. This is called A/B testing.
Only after doing all this did Joel open his own business and was ready for business!
The Wizard of Oz – MVP
The next strategy is a magical one! The idea behind it is simple… “Pretend before you make it!” Imagine your business was almost completely automated… while you did everything manually behind the scenes.
The best example of a company that has done just this is the online shoe retailer Zappos. Zappos was one of the first companies to even start selling shoes online.
Concierge MVP
Much like the Wizard of Oz, the Concierge MVP strategy requires a lot of legwork at the beginning. This of course reduces inventory, startup costs and risk… And it’s also a great source of data! Here… however, we let our clients know that nothing is automated.

Crowdfunding platforms
Crowdfunding platforms are a great way to test key benefits and features that people will pay for, and you'll also get – hopefully – actively involved early adopters.
