ABOUT THIS VIDEO

Marketplace insurance is part of the Affordable Care Act (ACA), also known as Obamacare. It was designed to provide comprehensive health care at affordable prices. Marketplace insurance is a great way to purchase coverage if you are self-employed or unemployed. One of the central ideas of the Affordable Care Act is that all health insurance plans must offer basic benefits. A full list of basic benefits can be found here: https://www.healthcare.gov/coverage/preventive-care-benefits/

You can enroll in Marketplace Insurance each year during the annual open enrollment period. The open enrollment period runs from November 1 to January 15, and coverage begins on January 1. You may also qualify for a special enrollment period if certain events have occurred in your life. Depending on the nature of your special enrollment period, you may have 60 days before or 60 days after the event to enroll in a plan. If you miss your special enrollment period window, you may have to wait until the next open enrollment period to apply.

You can register in several ways. You can:

Use an agent
Use a broker
Call Healthcare.gov
Use the Healthchare.gov website

First, you can call an agent. An agent is a representative of a specific carrier (insurance company). An agent will only present you with the plan available from their company. You will not receive any special discounts or avoid any fees by working directly with an agent.

You can also call a broker. A broker works for you, not the insurance company. They help you compare multiple plans offered by multiple providers. You will not be charged any additional fees for working with a broker. This is why working with a broker is our top recommendation. If you need help, you can reach us at iHealthBrokers at 888-410-0344.

Next, you can call Healthcare.gov directly. A call center representative can explain all available plans, help you compare by price and features, and complete your enrollment over the phone. Call 1-800-318-2596 (TTY: 1-855-889-4325).

Finally, you can use the website: healthcare.gov

If you've had insurance through your employer in the past, getting insurance through the Marketplace may come as a bit of a shock. As with any insurance plan, there are monthly premiums, deductibles, and copayments. It's important to have a clear idea of what you need up front so you can choose a plan accordingly. Choosing the right plan is one way to save money on the Marketplace.

Additionally, tax credits are available depending on your income level. To qualify, your income must be between 100% and 400% of the federal poverty level for your household size. You may be able to lower your taxable income by contributing to a health savings account (HSA). Healthcare.gov will ask you to estimate your income for the coming year and price your plans accordingly. Should you earn more than your estimate, you may have to pay back these tax credits when you file your tax return.

Finally, working with a licensed broker is the easiest way to save money on your health insurance. They will listen to your needs and offer you the best possible plan at the best price. If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to call us at (888) 918-0518 or schedule an appointment today.
