Polygenic risk scores are calculations that can be used to assess our genetic risk for a specific complex condition or disease. Polygenic risk scores give doctors the ability to understand a person's genetic risk for developing complex diseases and can also help identify a disease phenotype. Advances in genetic disease research have led to a better understanding that complex diseases have many genetic components – also known as polygeneity. In this video, our Illumina team explains how genotyping studies are conducted to develop and validate polygenic risk scores and how these scores can inform future understanding of disease risk and mitigation. #illumina #polygenetics #complexdiseaseresearch
