In short: Yes! Cloud security is still in its early stages… and still needs to be explored.
There are so many job opportunities and new roles in cloud security that it is a very lucrative field if you are just starting out!
When it comes to salary, always keep in mind that salaries vary…depending on factors like your location, experience, industry, and more!
These are the 5 roles mentioned:
️ Cloud Security Engineer – (highly in demand) designs and implements cloud security controls such as firewalls, access controls, encryption, etc. The goal is to secure cloud-based applications and monitor them for threats and vulnerabilities.
Median salary in the USA in 2023: 130,000 per year!
️ Cloud Security Analyst – (beginner friendly) monitors cloud-based systems for threats and vulnerabilities, conducts assessments, and analyzes security data and success improvements.
Median salary in the USA in 2023: 100,000 per year!
️ DevSecOps Engineer – (developer friendly) integrate security measures into the software development lifecycle of cloud-hosted apps. They link developers, security, and operations teams to identify security requirements and automate the implementation of controls, testing, and validation.
Average salary: 140,000 per year!
️ Cloud Security Architect – (Advanced role) designs and implements security measures for cloud-based apps, data, and networks. Provides architectural guidance to the rest of IT on security in the cloud and helps ensure the secure deployment of systems in cloud environments.
Average salary: 160,000 per year!
️ Cloud Security Advisor – provides guidance on how to troubleshoot potential issues when reviewing the cloud security posture and develops strategies to implement the right actions to fix the issues that already exist in the cloud.
