A stronger emphasis on corporate social responsibility and embedding it at the heart of corporate strategy can bring financial benefits, according to a study by IBM. The survey “Sustainable Growth through Corporate Social Responsibility” shows that many companies now see CSR as a growth opportunity and not just as a mere Compliance with legal requirements. 68 percent of respondents said they use CSR activities to increase sales. In addition, many companies also see such initiatives as a way to gain a competitive advantage and to open up new business opportunities. According to the survey, the increased awareness Consumers’ awareness of issues such as climate change and product safety is partly the reason for companies’ concern about these issues. The increased visibility of corporate behaviour, in turn, influences consumers’ decisions about what and from whom they buy, who they work for, who they collaborate with and where they invest. The survey is based on responses from senior managers from more than 250 companies worldwide.
