Giving feedback can be difficult and uncomfortable, especially if you avoid conflict. How do you give feedback that is sensitive yet effective?
Giving feedback, especially when it's constructive, can be difficult and agonizing. One extreme is sweeping concerns under the rug and waiting until the very last minute, with potentially disastrous consequences. The other extreme is coming across as blunt or judgmental – which can inadvertently lead to a defensive, uncomfortable relationship.
However, the "gift of feedback" is one of the most valuable ways to help others improve and grow in their role and career. When done right, high-quality and effective feedback leads to real, positive change. It's worth giving feedback with clarity and empathy.
In this episode, Innovation Editor Christine Liu turns to Liane Davey, author of The Good Fight, for answers on how to give critical feedback at work and how to practice navigating those difficult conversations.
