I'll show you step-by-step how to design a home from scratch. I'll go over everything in detail, including conducting a land survey for your vacant lot, sketching out exterior and interior design concepts with your architect, creating interior layouts, creating final drawings with your architect to send to a structural engineer for review, and finally choosing all of the finishes in the home like flooring and countertops. I'll use my newly built home in Lake Tahoe, California as an example as I explain each step in the home design process. The exterior design of my Tahoe home is a modern cabin. The interior design of the main floor is based on an open floor plan for the main living area that lends itself to indoor-outdoor living, while the second floor floor plan includes all three bedrooms with a private patio off the master bedroom. I'll share many tips I learned during my own home design process, such as how to save money on certain design decisions.
