Starting in November 2023, YouTube will take a more direct approach to placing ads in your videos. Instead of letting you choose which ads you want to show, such as pre-rolls, post-rolls, skippable or non-skippable ads, YouTube will make these decisions for you. In addition, YouTube will decide when the ads are shown and who they are shown to globally.

This means you no longer have to insert video ads manually; YouTube places them with the best possible timestamps, essentially doing the hard work for you.

Creators also still have full control over the placement of mid-roll ads and can decide whether these ads are turned on or off. Most creators should not notice a change as they already have many of these ad formats turned on by default.
