If you want to backup your Windows operating system or your computer's files to an external hard drive, you can easily do so with EaseUS Backup – https://bit.ly/3zTXely

In this tutorial, you will learn how to back up your Windows 10 PC to an external hard drive.

There are several ways to back up your PC. You can use a cloud backup or buy spoke software like Cronus for your PC. But Microsoft also offers built-in backup software in Windows 10 and I'm going to show you how to use that today.

I currently have a 250GB external hard drive and it's just plugged into the front of my computer, so these are the steps to backup a Windows 10 computer.

1. Go to Home
2. Settings
3. Updates
4. Security inside
5. Click Add Drive at the top of the screen

The PC will now search for connected drives that can be used for backup.

As you can see in this video, my external hard drive was found here, so I click on this hard drive and a screen will appear with more options: Look at the summary where it says no backup was created and gives you the option to back up now.

I'm going to look at the automatic backup settings now. By default, your files will be backed up every hour, which may be a bit overkill for most PCs. You can even set it to back up every 10 minutes. I would recommend that you back up daily. Again, it's up to you and your circumstances.

You will then be taken to a section where you can select how long you want your backups to be kept. The default is forever. You are limited by the size of your external hard drive storage, so if you just want a backup of your data in case your house or office burns down, you can select a month. If you have a business and have compliance requirements and need to keep data, you will need to buy a large hard drive and select forever or even a year or two.

Pretty much everything is backed up in the folders where I save all my downloads, favorites, documents, pictures, my camera and videos. I would make one recommendation here: If you use Microsoft Office One Drive, I would not include that in the backup options. One Drive is cloud-based storage, so you don't need to duplicate the backup.

So click on Remove One Drive and then you can exclude some folders at the bottom. You might want to exclude a folder, for example an application that you don't need to back up for some reason. You can go in there and navigate to any folder that you want to exclude from backup.

Once you have your preferences set, you can either wait until the next backup interval, which if we have set it up that way, will be in the next hour, or you can manually click "Backup Now" and the backup will start.

Here's how to back up your Windows 10 PC to an external hard drive. If you have any problems doing this or can't find the information you need, please contact us and we'll be happy to help you.
