I get asked this question all the time online: “How long should my chapters be?” When it comes to fanfiction, the answers are highly subjective, ranging from 1,000 to 10,000 words, but I have an opinion on the matter and I’m going to make it your problem now.

Here I present answers to the questions of what is too short and what is too long, what the generally accepted ideal length is, and some tips on how to determine the ideal chapter length for your fanfiction based on setting and genre.
