In this video, we explore the amazing notification tool called NTFY (or "notify"). NTFY lets you get notifications for almost anything you want, from long-running commands to battery levels. It's free, open source, and self-hostable, making it a powerful tool for system administrators and power users alike.
We'll first show you how to install NTFY on Linode, one of our favorite cloud providers, or on-premises using Docker, a Raspberry Pi, or a Cloudflare tunnel. We'll also show you how to set up the free NTFY app for Android or iPhone to receive notifications.
Once you've got NTFY up and running, we'll show you some interesting use cases, including how to get notified when a long-running command finishes, when your website goes down, or when your battery is low. We'll also show you how to set up a cron job for a daily reminder or a birthday reminder.
