PSM 1 and CSM 1 are the Scrum Master certifications that participants first take for Scrum training. But do they actually provide useful practical knowledge when it comes to a certified Scrum Master trainer, or is it just theory?
Scrum Master certification and Scrum Master training are widely popular among many professionals who want to become professional Scrum Masters.
Scrum Master training is offered by the three major certification bodies:
– Scrum.org
– ScrumAlliance
Additionally, Scrum Master certifications become outdated quickly and all information is freely available.
It is extremely difficult to decide which Scrum Master training course to choose from the wide range of Scrum Master training certificates available today.
There are more and more Agile Scrum Master training courses with Agile certifications that focus on the Scrum Master role, so I will discuss the value of PSM compared to CSM.
First, what is a Scrum Master? It is an important facilitator role in today's Scrum teams, helping to practice Scrum and support Scrum values. A Scrum certification is one way to better understand this role.
CSM – Certified Scrum Master – is a two-day course that provides participants with basic knowledge of Scrum and the role of the Scrum Master.
PSM – Professional Scrum Master – is a fantastic two-day course that teaches participants basic to advanced Scrum Master skills.
All of the above courses are certified Scrum Master training courses that are recognized and valued worldwide.

However, it is very difficult for beginners to choose an Agile Scrum Master course. This video goes into more detail about what you should consider before investing in the role of a Scrum Master.
All of these two-day courses provide phenomenal insight into the life and theory of a Scrum Master. However, attending these two-day courses is not enough. You also need the skills, tools and techniques that experts like me, who is a long-time Agile Coach, have acquired over the last 10 years.

• Daily stand-up for Scrum sprints

• Refinement of the Scrum Sprint Backlog
• Scrum Product Owner
• Scrum Master role
• Scrum development team
• Scrum artifacts (sprint increment, sprint backlog, Scrum product backlog)
Scrum Roles:
The Scrum Master is one of the most important roles in the Scrum framework. This is because the Scrum Master is the key player in terms of Scrum coaching for the team and the rest of the organization.
In the Scrum methodology, the Scrum Master is the person who protects the team and coaches the Scrum Team and the Scrum Product Owner.
The Scrum framework is typically used in Scrum software development projects. The Scrum Product Owner is a business representative who captures the business requirements in an agile way of working that fits the Scrum methodology.
The Scrum and Development Team works agile to deliver software iteratively and incrementally. This development team usually consists of 3-9 people.
The Scrum Master, the Product Owner and the development team use the Scrum principles and methodology together to develop complex software and systems iteratively and incrementally.
The Scrum Master is a special role for the agile Scrum team that effectively increases empowerment, communication, coordination and collaboration within the Scrum team and the entire organization.
The Product Owner is a visionary company representative who reflects the requirements in customer-oriented user stories to clarify them.
