This week, Google updated its Enhanced Safe Browsing feature to protect users from malware and phishing attacks via Gmail.

Back in 2007, Google introduced a feature for Chrome users called Safe Browsing. The goal of this project is to collect all potentially dangerous website URLs in a single database called a "blacklist." When this feature is enabled, if you click on a link to a website in this list, a warning message will appear informing you of the risks involved.

The company claims that those who enable this feature are 35% less likely to fall victim to various phishing scams.

It currently protects over 5 billion devices worldwide across browsers such as Chrome, Safari, Brave and others.

However, if you have enabled this feature through your Google account, you will now also be warned about suspicious links in your Gmail account.

We can enable this feature by visiting this website here.
I will add a link to it further down in the video description.

You can also find this page by going to your Google Account.
Then tap the Security tab.
And scroll down until you see the “Advanced Safe Browsing” feature.

This is disabled by default, but once enabled, it provides protection for your devices and your Google services.

The only major downside to enabling this feature is that Google collects a lot of your data.
For this to work, Google needs to collect all the links contained in your Gmail emails.
If you use Chrome, this means that data is collected about the links you clicked, the files you downloaded and the extensions you installed.

The company says this data is only used to improve your security and is only collected when you are signed in to your Google Account.

They even go one step further and anonymize this data after a short period of time.

However, I think I'm willing to hand this over to Google if it means I get more protection from malware attacks and phishing scams. But you may see it differently.

All you need to understand is that the Enhanced Safe Browsing feature is enabled for your entire Google Account.
There is no way to enable this feature only for Gmail or only for Chrome.

Since Gmail currently has over 1.8 billion active users, the newly updated Enhanced Safe Browsing feature is a great way to protect users from suspicious links sent via email.
