In June, GOG.com announced its new "GOG Connect" program, which it hoped to use to undermine Steam's dominance as a platform. Feel like you've spent so much money that you can never leave Steam? GOG's plan was to provide you with duplicate, DRM-free copies of the games you've already purchased, taking that burden off your shoulders.

I don't know how much longer we can keep writing articles like "There's a new batch of GOG Connect games for you," but here's one: This week, there are seventeen new GOG Connect titles for you to grab. This time, the games included are: 2D Tony Hawk sim OlliOlli, murder sim Hotline Miami, Wang sim Shadow Warrior, and medieval exploration sim Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition. Also Teslagrad, one of my favorite puzzle platformers of the last few years.

You can link your Steam account and get your duplicate game licenses here, but the process should already be complete if you linked the two in June.

And why not? Even if you love Valve with all your heart, there's always the chance that Steam will crash and you'll lose all your game purchases forever. The chances are very, very slim, but it's smart to have a backup.

I'm not a fan of the way GOG has rolled out Connect, though. In June I wrote, "It looks like the current crop is going to expire in five days, after which we'll probably get a new batch of twenty." Instead, it's taken three months, and there are only seventeen.

Game licensing is a tricky subject and I suppose it's even worse when you're trying to convince publishers to give free licenses to your customers. That said, I didn't expect it would take this long for us to see each batch, nor did I expect that we'd have to alert you to Connect's continued existence when it arrived.

Well, free games. Can't really complain. Again, you have six days (coinciding with the GOG Back to School Sale) to secure these reserves. You might as well take advantage of that.
