According to NIST 800-34:
Information systems contingency planning is a coordinated strategy of plans, procedures and technical measures that enable the recovery of information systems, operations and data after a disruption. Contingency planning generally includes one or more of the following approaches to restoring disrupted services:
• Restoration of information systems using alternative devices;
• Executing some or all of the affected business processes using alternative (manual) processing methods (normally only acceptable for short-term disruptions);
• Restoration of information systems operations at an alternative location (normally acceptable only for long-term disruptions or those that physically affect the facility); and
• Implement appropriate contingency planning controls based on the security impact level of the information system.

After completing this training, the emergency planning team will be able to:
• Optimize your organization’s emergency response.
• Identify the activities, resources and procedures required during extended critical IT outages.
• Make sure you are aware of emergency roles and responsibilities.
• Ensuring coordination and communication between employees.
