In a world where diversity is often viewed through the lens of race and/or sexual orientation, Teddi offers an equally important perspective on accessibility that we often overlook. Since her youth, Theresa (Teddi) Doupe has worked to promote diversity and inclusion, use strengths as a foundation for development and learning, and transform disability management into accessibility management. Teddi's ties to the UofA include a BEd (Special Education), teaching in the Fresh Start program, and over 20 years of experience in accessibility services. Her work with the Canadian Association of College and University Student Services and Disability Service Providers in Post-secondary Education, the Learning Disabilities Association of Alberta, the UofA Employment Equity Advisory Committee, and many others has made her an advocate of social models of disability, universal design as a tool for social justice, and inclusion and diversity as a building block. She has served as Chair of the UofA's Accessibility Initiative with Dr. M. Samuels co-authored the Alberta Guidelines for Documentation, Assessment, and Services for Students with Learning Difficulties in Post-Secondary Studies and received the Outstanding Achievement Award from the Learning Disabilities Association of Alberta. This talk was presented at a TEDx event, which used the TED conference format but was independently organized by a local community. For more information, visit https://www.ted.com/tedx
