The automation of hardware-in-loop (HIL) tests of vehicle control units enables an efficient functional testing approach with reduced turnaround time.

HIL Testing with VT System is one of the industry recognized HIL testing setups and is used to perform functional testing of ECUs including HVAC systems, seat and mirror control ECUs, vehicle lighting ECUs and more.

Yetukuri Hashmi, Test Team Lead at Embitel Technologies, demonstrates how to perform HIL testing using the VT system. In this demo video, each card of the VT test setup is explained along with its role.

What is a VT system? What role does it play in a HIL test setup?

The VT System is a flexible test system designed to interface with these I/O interfaces and collect the required data during testing. It essentially replaces actual sensors and actuators with modules (which are inserted separately into the VT System compartments).

The modules of the VT system contain all the components required for the functional test. For example, if an engine control ECU needs to be tested, the corresponding components that pass the PWM signal are included in the VT system.
