One thing I emphasize in my content is that fanfiction is not an "inferior" form of fiction writing. It is a medium in its own right, with its own rules and conventions that need to be analyzed, discussed, and taught. Because there is so much writing advice that primarily relates to original literature, fanfiction writers are constantly misled about what would be best for a story in their medium.
