This exception occurs if the WSUS folder "UpdateServicesPackages/" does not exist, is not shared correctly, or has incorrect permissions.

In PatchMyPC.log you will see the following:

SyncUpdate: Exception message: CreateDirectory failed

In SMS_ISVUPDATES_SYNCAGENT.log you will see the following:

SyncUpdate: An exception occurred while publishing to WSUS
SyncUpdate: Exception HRESULT: -2147467259
SyncUpdate: Exception message: CreateDirectory failed

In UpdatesPublisher.log or SCUP.log you will see the following:

An exception occurred during publishing
Exception HRESULT: -2147467259
Exception message: CreateDirectory failed
