In this tutorial, we will explain how to properly install Meta Segment Anything Model 2 (SAM2) in Python and Windows and how to write an object detection and tracking script in Python. We will first explain all the prerequisites you need to meet to properly install META SAM2. We will explain how to properly install the CUDA toolkit and how to set the CUDA_HOME path. Then, we will explain how to create a Python virtual environment to install SAM2 packages like PyTorch, Setup Tools, Matplotlib. We will also explain how to download the SAM2 checkpoint files and run a SAM2 script. The script will load images, detect an animal and track it using a mask.
