Elena López's talk will address the impact of unethical business practices, which unfortunately remain a widespread and global problem. From worker exploitation to climate destruction, these issues have serious consequences for people and the planet. Elena's talk will introduce a relatively new area of work – corporate ethics consulting. This fast-growing field has evolved to help companies meet their ethics and compliance requirements/regulations and establish best practices in challenging areas such as preventing corruption, curbing human rights abuses and treating people fairly. Elena is a Spanish national and has lived in Spain, Germany and the UK. She graduated from the University of Warwick in 2019 with a BSc degree in Philosophy, Politics and Economics. She then completed an MPhil in Development Studies at the University of Cambridge, specialising in anti-bribery and anti-corruption, where she received a Jesus College Prize for her academic achievements in 2020. Since then, she has worked in London as a corporate ethics consultant at bespoke consultancy GoodCorporation, where she advises organisations on human rights, anti-bribery and anti-corruption best practices in their operations and supply chains. She enjoys reading and also rowing on the Thames with her local team – a hobby she discovered in Cambridge. This talk was given at a TEDx event, organised in the TED conference format but independently of a local community. For more information, see https://www.ted.com/tedx
