The first thing we needed to do was download WordPress to our local environment (our physical computers) so that we can quickly make updates and changes no matter where we are and without having to be connected to a server far away. In this lesson, we will start diving into the PHP language, the language that powers WordPress. In this lesson, we will go over the different fundamentals of PHP and how it runs all WordPress sites. We will learn the basic folder structure that all WordPress sites have and how to add our own page to our site. Then we will learn how we can use the PHP language in a PHP file. We will learn how to enter PHP mode and how to exit PHP mode. We will also learn about variables in PHP and how to use them in our code editor. In the next lesson, you will create your own WordPress theme from scratch.
