Across Bangladesh, students and youth are protesting against a government quota system for job allocation that they say unfairly favors the children of “freedom fighters” from Bangladesh’s war of independence.

The protests escalated after unprecedented police violence and the students' demands went beyond the initial call for the abolition of the quota system.
