This August, Google blocked a DDoS attack with 46 million requests per second, which is 76% more than the previously reported record, but somehow I doubt that's a record worth celebrating.

In fact, DDoS attacks are increasing in frequency and size in 2022. A lot has happened since 1996, when the first DDoS attack occurred. Malicious actors used the Syn Flood attack to take the Internet provider Panix offline for a few days. This attack was small, but it was a start.

One of the first serious attacks occurred in 2007, which brought Estonian government websites down for 22 days. Since then, attacks on business providers, banking servers and gaming servers have become more frequent than ever before.

So far, the only way to ensure DDoS protection is to use a secure hosting provider, a virtual private server, and cloud hosting. But where even software like VPNs can help a regular user, can companies still fend off attacks with millions of requests?
