#TipsForSafeWebBrowsing

1. Check the URLs of the websites you visit. The URL "https://www.abccompany.com" is legitimate, but a fake website may have a domain that looks like "https://www.abcccompany.com" or "https:/www.abccompany-pk.co.net/".

2. Look for "https" or a lock symbol in your browser's address bar. These websites have valid security certificates, which means that your activity on that website is encrypted and private. Regularly delete temporary files, cookies, history, saved passwords, etc.

3. Avoid visiting potentially dangerous websites. Websites with explicit content or torrent-based websites or websites that offer FREE downloadable proprietary content are examples of websites that could try to download malware onto your device.

4. Never ignore warning messages from your browser. Your browser may detect if a website is marked as unsafe or is using a potentially fraudulent certificate.

5. Run antivirus software and scan files before downloading them. Antivirus software provides protection by scanning your computer for malicious files and removing them. Don't download anything until you're sure it's safe. If you suspect a file may be illegitimate or infected, scan it with antivirus software before downloading.

6. Don't reuse passwords. Using the same password for multiple websites makes it easier for attackers to compromise your sensitive information. Instead, keep track of your various passwords in a handwritten list that you keep in a safe place, or develop your own algorithm for creating unique passwords that only you know. It's also recommended that you change your passwords every 90 days.

7. Disable the feature that auto-completes forms or saves your passwords. Almost all browsers and many websites offer to save your passwords for future use. Also, websites can use hidden fields to steal data from forms. Enabling these features will make it easier for attackers to discover them if your system is compromised. Also, if you stay logged in to a website, criminals can hijack your browsing session and steal your information. If you have these features enabled, disable them and delete your saved passwords.

8. Turn on your browser's pop-up blocker. The pop-up blocker is now a standard browser feature and should always be enabled when you surf the Internet. If it needs to be disabled for a particular program, turn it back on immediately when you're finished with the activity, because some pop-ups contain viruses that can be triggered at the touch of a button.

9. Avoid public or free Wi-Fi. Attackers often use wireless sniffers to steal user information sent over unprotected networks. The best way to protect yourself is to avoid using these networks altogether.

10. Never trust free content or give out personal information to get something for free online. Free downloads of movies, music and videos often contain pirated content and just as often this content contains viruses and malware. Criminals can use this data to break into personal or business accounts.
